Robert D. Brown, formerly of Malvern, has been named the area’s outstanding Consumer of the Year by the Department of Human Services Division of Services for the Blind (DSB). He was selected for the achievement award from the area including Saline, Garland, Hot Spring, Grant, Clark, and part of Pulaski Counties. DSB Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor Henry Washington nominated him for the award because of his determination to overcome adversity and succeed at work. Read full article here. |

Gale S. Pollock is a retired United States Army major general who served as the Deputy Surgeon General of the United States Army from October 2006 to March 2007, and also as chief of the Army Nurse Corps. She became acting Surgeon General of the United States Army for nine months. She is the first woman and the first non-physician to hold the position. She has 30 years of service in the Army and is a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. She retired from the Army in 2008. For 2011 she was a Fellow at Harvard's Advanced Leadership Initiative. Pollock's last position was Chief, United States Army Nurse Corps and Commanding General of Tripler Army Medical Center of the Pacific Regional Medical Command. She was also Lead Agent of TRICARE Pacific in Honolulu, Hawaii. Her past military assignments include Special Assistant to the Surgeon General for Information Management and Health Policy; Commander, Martin Army Community Hospital, Fort Benning, Ga.; Commander, U.S. Army Medical Activity, Fort Drum, N.Y.; Staff Officer, Strategic Initiatives Command Group for the Army Surgeon General; Department of Defense Healthcare Advisor to the Congressional Commission on Service Members and Veterans Transition Assistance; Health Fitness Advisor at the National Defense University; Senior Policy Analyst in Health Affairs, DoD; and Chief, Anesthesia Nursing Service at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, D.C. |

Mark O’Neill is an accomplished leader with extensive domestic and international experience in military, diplomatic and corporate arenas. After concluding a thirty-year career in the United States Army, he successfully served in senior positions at defense industry leaders L-3 MPRI and CACI, and at engineering giant Fluor where he led the logistics support effort for coalition forces in Afghanistan. During a distinguished career in uniform he served in leadership positions from platoon through multi-national division level, with peacekeeping and combat deployments to Haiti, Afghanistan and Iraq. Two tours in the Pentagon serving on the Army Staff honed skills in the development of strategy, plans and policy. Mark also served in political-military assignments as an Army Foreign Area Officer in Hong Kong and as a Defense Attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, China. He concluded his military career developing the nation’s future military leadership at the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College. As a business owner, he is a leadership development and organizational growth consultant to Fortune 500 companies, assisting in their efforts to manage change and better serve their clients and shareholders. A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Mark is a 1978 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point where he was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in general engineering and commissioned into the Infantry. He holds a Master of Arts degree in National Security Affairs from the Naval Postgraduate School, studied Mandarin Chinese at the U.S. Defense Language Institute, the British Ministry of Defense Chinese Language School in Hong Kong and at Beijing University, and is a graduate of the U.S. Army War College and the National Defense University’s CAPSTONE program for General and Flag Officers. An avid hiker, aspiring writer, and loyal St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan, Mark is the husband of Lori, his wife of over thirty-five years, and father of sons Colin and Logan. He resides in Virginia. |

Retired Major General Michael Lynch was a fighter pilot in the United States Air Force, flying the F-4 Phantom, F-15 Eagle, and A-10 Thunderbolt. A graduate of the United States Air Force Academy, General Lynch held a variety of command and staff positions across the globe during his 36 years of service. General Lynch recently retired as an International Airline Captain from Continental Airlines and is currently serving as the Vice President of Governmental Affairs at HIE-Electronics. A Kansas City native, General Lynch is happily married, a father of three and resides in Leawood, Kansas where he serves on the Leawood City Council Foreign Relations Committee for Sister Cities. |

Large contract with Express Scripts keeps Alphapointe growing |

Kansas City-based Alphapointe signed a seven-year deal to produce prescription bottles for Express Scripts Holding Co. (Nasdaq: ESRX), adding to its ongoing growth. Nonprofit Alphapointe is the nation's third-largest employer of blind and visually impaired people, in addition to providing many vision-related and rehabilitation services. It’s had a contract to produce prescription bottles for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for more than 20 years. Now it’s adding a private-sector contract with St. Louis-based Express Scripts, a leading pharmacy benefit management service provider that posted $2.48 billion in 2015 earnings. Jan Jones works for Teva Pharmaceuticals as Vice President of Patient Services and Solutions in Overland Park, Kan. Her team provides wrap around services, such as education, nurse support and financial assistance, for patients prescribed Teva specialty products. She has worked for Teva for 15 years, and also has experience in consumer marketing and public relations. Jan is a graduate of Kansas State University and lives at Lake Winnebago, Mo., with husband Trent and daughters Ella and Jenna. |

For the last 20 years, Kathryn has given to the local community as a community activist and an elected official. She is an accomplished journalist, business and community leader; having served as an alderman for seven years, Parkville, Missouri Mayor for two-terms and Platte County Commissioner for one term. During her years of service, she has developed relationships with influential contributors to our metropolitan community and has been part of many fund raising campaigns for numerous area nonprofits. |
